A Dallas man is suing Baylor University Medical Center saying a retractor was left inside his body following surgery.
Genaro Nava's lawyer, Les Weisbrod, says the surgery occurred last August and his client experienced extreme pain and became sick in the days that followed.
"When they went to close Mr. Nava up, paid enough attention to notice that they were leaving behind this large retractor," Weisbrod said.
The lawsuit says once doctors took an x-ray a few days later they had an additional surgery to remove the retractor.
Baylor said in a statement that they learn from events like this.
"As always, our priority is our patients and their families, and we will continue to work diligently with Mr. Nava and his representatives with deep regret for what he experienced," Baylor said in a statement.
