Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is making a strong pitch for a second NFL franchise in North Texas.

The pro-football league has been at 32 teams for 20 years and many cities are pushing the NFL to expand again with some observers are thinking of as many as 40 teams.

An "NFL on CBS" tweet asks if the NFL announced a new expansion team, what city do you think most deserves it?

Johnson replies "The answer is Dallas."

In his own tweet, he says the Dallas-Fort Worth area is close to passing Chicago as the third largest metro area in the US. He points out that the top two US cities, Los Angeles and New York, already have two NFL teams and he thinks North Texas is ready.

He suggests an AFC team to play in southern Dallas, saying that team would never lack for a fan base or support from the city. Johnson asks: "who wouldn't want to see a Dallas versus Dallas Super Bowl in the City of Dallas?"
