The Dallas Mayor's Disaster Relief Fund has given grants to more than two dozen organizations helping people recover from last week's winter storm. The fund is giving $20,000 each to 25 organizations.

"We wanted to make the greatest impact possible for our residents," Mayor Eric Johnson says. "As an added bonus, we wanted to draw some attention to the wonderful work these organizations do year-round."

The grants will go to organizations to provide food, water and clothing as well as rental, mortgage and utility assistance.

Earlier this week, the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban and several players donated $1.1 million. Thursday, Kroger announced a donation of $50,000, 50,000 gallons of water and the use of ten trucks to deliver the water.

"We hope we can continue to partner with the city and do great things to help people restore after this winter storm," says Kroger's April Martin.

Johnson says the City of Dallas has had more than 300 water main breaks. Thursday, he said more than 200 had been repaired.

"We've got folks in the city without water. I've been on the phone, talking to the state daily about our city's water needs," Johnson says.

The Greater Dallas Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce donated $25,000 to the fund.

"We're here to show appreciation, a token to help out all the people who need," says the Chamber's Suzanne Chen.

Johnson plans to announce additional rounds of grants in the future.
