Dallas city officials are reviewing updated plans for a new police training academy at the University of North Texas at Dallas, after earlier proposals faced pushback over space limitations for recruits.
The city has been working for years to develop a larger, modern training facility, but initial designs revealed earlier this year raised concerns about whether the site could accommodate new recruits. That issue has now been addressed, and the latest draft received some support at city hall.
However, City Manager Kimberly Tolbert said Thursday that the project’s final cost remains uncertain. A previous estimate put the price at $150 million, while the city currently has about $100 million set aside for the project.
City officials continue to evaluate funding options as they work to finalize plans for the long-awaited facility.
