In addition to riding the Ferris wheel and taking their chances at the Midway, people at the fair could also apply to become a police officer with the Dallas Police Department on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Israel Hererra says his team came up with the unusual idea to hold a hiring event there, and the fair was all for it. He says the 20 applicants even did the first phase of testing right there at the fair!
"My team came to me and said 'hey you know Chief we think it'd be a great idea if we could do this at the state fair' and I said you know what let's bring it to them so we spoke to them and it only took about a minute and they said 'Absolutey, let's give it to them. Let's bring it on down!"
Hererra talked about the hiring event with Mike Rogers and Austin York - who are broadcasting the Mid Morning Mic Check out there live live every weekday from 10 to noon. You can find them at Fernies Funnel Cakes in the Embarcadero Building.
