The nightly curfew applies to everyone under the age of 17 who are not allowed in a public place from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday and from midnight to 6 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Any juveniles who are detained under the curfew will only be released to a parent or guardian, or to a facility where staff offers crisis intervention, emergency shelter and counseling for runaways.

In a statement, Dallas police say the enforcement of the curfew had helped reduce overall crime committed by juvenile offenders and decreased the number of juvenile victims of violent crimes.
