There is new information being released about how Dallas police tracked down the man charged in connection with the recent theft of two monkeys at the Dallas Zoo.

According to the arrest affidavit, it was a combination of cameras, facial recognition technology and concerned people that led Dallas police to arrest 24-year old Davion Irvin of DeSoto.

The arrest affidavit says Zoo employees who were already on alert because of some recent damage to animal habitats. They took note of Irvin when he began asking questions about the Emperor Tamarin monkeys and walking in a non-public area around the habitat.

The affidavit says Irvin was also asking questions about the clouded leopard, which had previously been let out of the cage.

The Zoo used its security cameras to snap a picture of Irvin and put it out in the media. Members of a church in Lancaster noticed Irvin hanging out near an abondoned house the church owned. They went to the pastor, the pastor went to police and the monkeys were found.

Facial recognition technology then was used to put a name to the face and Irvin was arrested. He is currently in jail and faces six charges of animal cruelty in connection to the tamarin monkeys, and two charges of burglary.
