A woman is dead and another is in custody after an argument over a simple act of courtesy turned deadly outside a Dallas PetSmart.

Police say 41-year-old Cecilia Simpson was shot and killed Sunday after asking another woman to say “thank you” for holding the door open at the store near Wheatland Road and Highway 67. According to investigators, the argument moved into the parking lot and became physical before the suspect pulled a gun and opened fire.

Officers arrested 22-year-old Keona Hampton at the scene. She is now charged with murder and is being held in the Dallas County Jail.

Police have not said what led the confrontation to escalate so quickly. The investigation remains ongoing.
