Nine years after she slashed her infant daughter's throat, a Dallas woman now wants to be released, and her attorney says she's no longer a danger.
Danielle Busby suffers from Schizophrenia. In March of 2012, Busby used a steak knife to slash her infant daughter. Since then Busby has been confined to mental hospitals and unable to defend herself against a charge of injury to a child.
Busby's attorney, Doug Schopmeyer, says Busby has now progressed to the point where she can move to a new outpatient, competency program.
"She is of no threat to the community," said Schopmeyer. "She is an incredibly kind, decent human being and we hope this new environment is beneficial to her."
The infant girl who was injured has since recovered and is living with a relative.
Schopmeyer says as much progress as has been made, and the one thing that Busby cannot rationalize is why she slashed her baby.
