The city of Dallas is expected to name a new police chief by the end of the week, according to city officials.
City Manager Kimberly Tolbert will make the final selection from five finalists, including two candidates from within the Dallas Police Department and three from outside agencies.
Juan Hernandez Jr., president of the Dallas chapter of the National Latino Law Enforcement Organization, said he believes his group will be able to work with whoever is chosen to lead the department.
The search for a new chief comes as the department faces ongoing challenges related to staffing, crime reduction, and community trust.
