Dallas Area Rapid Transit officials are hoping to stop a flood of 'red ink' caused the Coronavirus and its effect on ridership, which is down an estimated 50 percent since the outbreak began.
And, of course, with fewer riders means lower revenues. In light of that, DART has offered an early retirement package and it seems to be helping.
About 300 employees have accepted the package that includes a severance payment equal to one month's pay for every year of service. That means a year's pay for every 12 years at DART plus other benefits.
