Dallas Area Rapid Transit is rolling out a new round of service changes starting February 2, cutting several low-performing bus routes and reducing weekday peak rail service across North Texas.

Under the update, light-rail trains on all four lines will run every 20 minutes during peak hours, down from 15 minutes, as the agency shifts resources to match ridership levels.

DART says the changes also include schedule adjustments on remaining bus routes and modifications at some transit centers, with updated timetables posted online. Officials have said the moves are aimed at maintaining service reliability while managing operating costs.

The service reductions come as several DART member cities, including Plano, Irving and Farmers Branch, are weighing or have already scheduled votes on whether to remain in the regional transit system. Those discussions have centered on cost, service levels, and long-term value to taxpayers, adding political pressure as the agency works to balance its budget.

DART leadership has said service planning decisions are separate from the membership votes, but acknowledged the debates highlight broader questions about funding and the future of regional transit in North Texas.
