PLANO, Texas — Demolition crews imploded the historic Electronic Data Systems campus in Plano on Sunday morning, clearing the way for a $1.3 billion AT&T corporate headquarters relocation from Downtown Dallas.
According to CBS News TexasAccording to CBS News Texas, controlled explosives brought down the remaining structures of the iconic 54-acre site along Parkwood Boulevard and Legacy Drive around 8 a.m. Sunday. Police shut down surrounding thoroughfares during the operation, but officials confirmed all roadways reopened shortly after the area was secured.
Plano city officials confirmed no injuries or incidents were reported during the scheduled implosion.
The property, originally opened in the early 1990s by late billionaire Ross Perot, served as the global headquarters for EDS and helped establish the Legacy Business Park as a major corporate hub in North Texas. The campus sat largely vacant for over seven years before plans were approved for its redevelopment.
The site is being cleared to construct a new corporate campus for AT&T, which announced earlier this year that it will consolidate its regional operations from Downtown Dallas, Irving, and existing Plano locations into a single, unified site.
According to Community Impact, Plano City Council members approved a $20 million economic development incentive package to support the project. The company plans to bring roughly 10,000 employees to the new 54-acre facility, with operations expected to open in the second half of 2028.
