Denton County says a Chief Deputy Constable who was battling coronavirus has passed away.
The county says Precinct 2 Chief Deputy Constable M. Wayne Rhodes passed away Tuesday from a COVID-19-related illness.
Rhodes had been with the department since 1995, he was 66-years-old. He leaves behind a wife, 6 kids and 16 grandchildren.
His family says Chief Rhodes was proud to be the longest serving chief deputy in Denton County.
Denton County Judge Andy Eads says "Chief Rhodes was known for his commitment to excellence.
His favorite personal message was: 'Strive to be the best you can be in everything you do in life.' And, he did."
