Denton County commissioner injured, husband killed after being stabbed by grandson, police say

A Denton County Commissioner is hospitalized, and her husband was killed after they were both stabbed by their grandson early Monday morning, police say.

Denton County Commissioner for Precinct 3 Bobbie J. Mitchell was in stable condition Monday morning, while her husband, Fred Mitchell, died from his injuries, Lewisville police said. The incident happened at 3:53 a.m.
in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive.

Police said when officers arrived they found two adults with apparent stab wounds. The suspect, Michell Blake Reinacher, is the grandson of Bobbie and Fred Mitchell, according to police.

Mitchell’s district covers the Lewisville area. She is a former city council member and the first Black mayor of Lewisville. She resigned as mayor in 2000 to run for Denton County commissioner.

Reinacher is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
