Denton County health officials have confirmed the third human case of West Nile virus this year. The patient lives in the city of Denton, according to county health authorities, though no further details were released to protect the individual’s privacy.

Officials are urging residents to take extra precautions to avoid mosquito bites, especially as mild fall temperatures allow mosquitoes to remain active. The county’s public health department recommends using insect repellent approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, wearing long sleeves outdoors, and draining standing water where mosquitoes breed.

West Nile virus is transmitted through mosquito bites and can cause fever, headache, body aches, and, in severe cases, neurological complications. Health officials say most people infected do not experience symptoms but emphasize continued vigilance as mosquito season lingers into November.
