COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Denton County, and while health officials say the Delta variant is still dominant, they believe Omicron is on its way.
"I would suspect that Omicron is already here and just has not been identified as of yet," says County Health Director Dr. Matt Richardson. "As we're ramping up for Omicron, the testing capacity is going to catch up with the reality."
Dr. Richardson says in addition to an increase in COVID-19 cases by date of symptom onset, the county is also reporting a rise in the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations. He says right now there is still space, but that could eventually change. Especially with cold and flu season, as well as holiday staffing shortages.
