Police in Denton and other agencies in Denton County are trying to identify the suspect in a string of home burglaries. Investigators believe the same person is responsible for a string of crimes in Denton and Hickory Creek.
"We've had three reports of a home burglar who has been targeting unlocked vehicles," said Amy Cunningham with the Denton Police Department. "He appears to be finding garage door openers in these vehicles and then using those openers to enter households. On multiple occasions the homeowners have woken up when the burglar was still inside the home."
Each time, the suspect has been able to escape before officers arrived. However, investigators do have photos of the man captured by a home security system. They show a white male wearing a dark baseball cap and a polo shirt while carrying a flashlight. Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes the man Denton Police or Hickory Creek Police. They're also seeking any additional video or pictures that homeowners may have of the suspect.
Cunningham says it's also a good idea to secure your vehicle to limit the opportunity that thieves have to steal your valuables or use your garage door opener. "If you have belongings in your vehicle, be sure to take your property inside," she said. "If you can't take your property with you, be sure to hide it - and always lock your vehicle's doors."
