Denton residents are voicing concerns about data centers as the city considers a six-month pause on new projects.
More than two dozen people spoke in favor of the proposed moratorium during a City Council public hearing Tuesday night. No one spoke against it.
Council members are scheduled to vote on the pause December first.
Concerns include the potential impact on water and electricity costs. A recent University of Houston poll found four out of five likely Texas voters support policies limiting data center development.
But the city says two existing data centers have already generated three million dollars in sales tax revenue, even though neither is fully operational.
Denton recently tightened zoning rules for new data centers, requiring a special permit. If approved, the temporary moratorium could last through May.
