The Walmart Supercenter at 2750 W. University Drive, near the University of North Texas campus and Rayzor Ranch, began offering the service Thursday in partnership with Zipline. The launch marks Zipline’s 20th site in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Drone deliveries are available for select groceries, electronics, household essentials and other lightweight items weighing up to 5.5 pounds. Service covers an approximately 2.5-mile radius around the store, with drones flying autonomously and lowering packages via a tether to designated drop spots or homes where eligible. Customers can check availability and place orders through the Zipline mobile app on iOS or Android.

The service is designed for fast, convenient same-day delivery without the need for a traditional driver, building on Walmart’s earlier drone efforts in Denton. The retailer previously launched drone delivery at its South Loop 288 location in October 2024 using a different partner, Wing.

A demonstration for city officials included a delivery of fishing supplies and snacks to North Lakes Park, highlighting the technology’s precision. Zipline aims to provide seamless, zero-emission logistics focused on speed and safety.

For Denton residents and students in the coverage area, the option could reduce wait times for everyday needs and ease some traffic around the busy University Drive corridor. No major road or airspace disruptions are expected, as the drones operate at low altitudes on predefined routes under Federal Aviation Administration oversight.

Walmart has been steadily rolling out drone delivery across North Texas and other markets as part of a broader push for quicker fulfillment. Eligibility depends on exact address, and not all items qualify due to weight and size limits.

No injuries, accidents or safety incidents have been reported in connection with the Denton launch. The program adds to the growing presence of commercial drone operations in the region, which also includes medical and other retail deliveries.

Residents interested in trying the service should download the Zipline app and verify their location. Additional details are available on Walmart’s drone delivery page and Zipline’s website.
