Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has halted most private, charter and other non-scheduled flights through at least the end of the month, allowing only local (based) aircraft, emergency, medical, law enforcement, firefighting or military flights to operate under a new directive from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Commercial passenger service continues as normal, so travelers on scheduled flights aren’t expected to see any disruption.

The restrictions come amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, which has resulted in thousands of air traffic controllers working without pay and triggering staffing shortages that forced the FAA to cut flight capacity by up to 10 % at 40 major U.S. airports nationwide.

Other hubs including Hartsfield‑Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport are also facing limits on private jet traffic or total flight operations.

Officials say the limits at DFW could be lifted earlier or extended depending on evolving staffing and operational needs.
