Storms moved out early enough Monday morning for a Memorial Day service to be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Hundreds of people attended the event in southern Dallas.

"It brings everybody together no matter what your political viewpoints are," an Air Force veteran from Dallas said. "We can always look around us and realize everybody here has skin in the game."

An Army veteran who served in Vietnam said he was glad to see attitudes toward service members changing from when he served.

"It's good to see, even if you disagree with the actions of the government, you don't take it out on the people," he said. "That's good to see."

"In your moments of celebration of our hard-won freedom, please take a moment to pass along to our youth the cost of our liberty," Marine Colonel Michael Brennan said.

Brennan told the crowd those who died in military service did "so we might carry on this wonderful experiment in liberty called America."

"May our blessed heroes interred here know the joy of having provided our freedom paid for by their sacrifice," he said. "May they see our renewed vigor to protect those things which they strove to uphold."
