Difference Maker helps families stay connected to loved ones at Assisted Living center

Susan Stephens felt a sense of comfort when she moved her 89 year-old mother to Presbyterian Village North Assisted Lving in Dallas.

“For the past 18 months, she has not had to go to the emergency room or the hospital,” Susan said. “That had been happening every three to four months when she was living at home in Sherman.”

But when COVID-19 hit and lockdowns began, Susan was understandably worried about the welfare of her elderly mother.

She speaker to her mother by phone everyday but says there is nothing like the face-to-face interaction she was used to having with her mother, who suffers from dementia.

That’s when she says administrative assistant Christina Martinez really stepped up to help families stay connected with their loved ones, scheduling window visits and keeping families informed during pandemic.

“I never felt like I was a number. Christina definitely goes above and beyond,” Susan said. “She makes it feel like she’s not just taking care of the patients but also the families.”

We’re proud to call Christina Martinez this week’s KRLD Difference Maker.
