DISD Board approves hybrid learning schedule for high school students

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Officials with the Dallas ISD say a new hybrid student schedule could help stop the spread of COVID-19 on campus.

The board approved the model last night. It splits students into two groups, based on last name. One of the groups will go to in-person class class on Mondays and Tuesdays, the second group will go to in-person class on Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays are flex days.

When students aren't on-campus, they'll continue virtual learning.

"Our high schools are in older buildings where the classes are typically smaller," says Jolee Healey, Chief of Schools for the DISD. "And the students themselves are larger. To maintain the county health guidance recommending the six feet, we could fit about 9-12 students per class instead of the usual 25."

Healey says the model will change and adapt as the school year progresses. She says it can also be molded to fit individual needs.

Students transitioning between schools are returning to campus next week, everyone else will be back on October 5th.
