There is growing, albeit, partisan support for the Texas House Democrats who fled Texas to break quorum over the redistricting effort.

The Democratic National Committee is standing shoulder to shoulder with House Democrats who face fines and arrests if and when they return to Texas. DNC Chair Ken Martin calls it a moral fight.

"A fight worth fighting with every tool at our disposal," Martin said. "A fight for the fundamental value that voters should get to choose their leaders and not the other way around."

This is not the first time lawmakers have left the Capitol to break quorum as a last resort.

House Democrats left Texas for about six weeks in 2021.

The practice started in 1870 and has occurred a handful of times since.

Another significant quorum break occurred in 1979 when democrats took issue with a move that could have benefited former Texas Governor John Connally's run for the presidency.
