Born at Parkland Hospital in 1958 during segregation, Dr. James Griffin is now the medical staff president. He's the first Black physician to hold that position. KRLD talked with him about how times have changed since he was born at the hospital he now leads.
Griffin received his medical degree from UT Southwestern in Dallas and became the medical school’s first Black graduate to join the UTSW faculty, according to UT Southwestern.
Griffin said one area that needs improvement is the mortality rate among pregnant Black women, who are four to five times more likely to die during childbirth than white women.
