There will be an increased patrol effort across Texas during the holidays to improve pedestrian safety.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is teaming up with local police departments in areas of major cities that see a significant increase in pedestrian traffic, especially downtown retail corridors, entertainment and hospitality districts, hotel zones, and seasonal event venues.
The goal is to lower the risk of theft and robbery where there is a lot of shopping, dining, and community activity.
"Texas hosts numerous holiday attractions and events that rely on strong pedestrian activity," said Texas Department of Public Safety Colonel Freeman F. Martin. "The Department of Public Safety is committed to working alongside our local partners to ensure these areas are well-patrolled and safe for Texans, their families, and visitors alike."
Operation Safe Holidays will operate in busy areas of Dallas and Fort Worth as well as Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.
