Lake Worth Police make a startling discovery during a recent traffic stop.

Jonathan Edwards, 35, and Shayna Leroy, 33, were arrested for outstanding warrants during what started out as a routine traffic stop.

"An inventory of the vehicle was conducted because it needed to be towed," says Lake Worth Police Chief J.T. Manoushagian. "And during that inventory, all of these drugs were located."

The drugs were THC and mushroom (psilocybin) infused products that could have lured kids into taking them.

"The packaging, the design of the edible THC or mushrooms are very similar to other types of candy," says Chief Manoushagian.

The packaging at first glance looked identical to those of popular candies like Skittles and Trolli.

Manoushagian says while those drugs are illegal in Texas, believe it or not, they're not illegal everywhere in the country.

"In states where certain psychedelic drugs and marijuana are legal, these products are very common," says Manoushagian. "They're sold in stores that are authorized to sell those products."

The packaging establishes that the drugs are highly potent.

"It discussed the different dosages, with the highest dose, 'god mode,' being 10 to 15 pieces, and the manufacturer says that the walls might melt," Manoushagian notes.

The Lake Worth Police Department posted images onto its X (formerly Twitter) feed to alert parents.

"We want to encourage parents, guardians, and caregivers to remain alert and actively talk to their children about the dangers of consuming unknown substances," the post read.

In addition to their outstanding warrants, Edwards and Leroy are both charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance greater than 400 grams. Leroy is also charged with possession of methamphetamine.
