The Philadelphia Eagles held off the Dallas Cowboys 24-20 in Arlington Thursday night in a season opener packed with drama both on and off the field.
Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts led the way with two rushing touchdowns, while the Cowboys kept it close behind Dak Prescott’s late scoring drive. The game came down to the final series, with the Eagles’ defense stopping Dallas in the closing seconds.
The matchup was delayed 65 minutes by lightning in the area, halting play late in the third quarter and sending fans and players scrambling for cover.
Controversy also erupted in the opening seconds when Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott exchanged words at midfield. Both players were seen spitting at each other, and Carter was quickly ejected.
The Eagles now move to 1-0 as they begin their Super Bowl title defense, while the Cowboys will try to regroup before hosting the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, September 14.
