North Texas head football coach Eric Morris will leave the Mean Green at the end of this season to take over the top job at Oklahoma State, the university confirmed this week. Morris, who has led UNT to a 10-1 record heading into the final stretch, is expected to transition to Stillwater once the Mean Green complete their postseason run.

The move fills a major vacancy for Oklahoma State, which dismissed longtime head coach Mike Gundy earlier this year after more than two decades with the program. University officials in Stillwater have been searching for new leadership as the Cowboys look to reset after a turbulent season.

Morris, a former Texas Tech assistant and noted offensive strategist, has reshaped UNT’s program in his short tenure, elevating the team into conference title and postseason contention. His departure marks a significant shift for North Texas, which will begin its own search for a successor as soon as the season concludes.

Oklahoma State has not released details on Morris’s contract or timeline beyond confirming he will join the program following North Texas’s final game. Both universities say existing staff will remain in place through the end of the season.
