Fort Worth police are providing extra security at O.D. Wyatt High School Tuesday morning following a first-day-of-school lockdown prompted by a photo circulating on social media that appeared to show a firearm inside the building.
Fort Worth police officers responded to the campus on East Seminary Drive around 2 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of a person potentially armed on campus. Investigators say a photo circulated online showing a group of five individuals displaying a handgun inside the high school.
School administrators placed the campus on a full lockdown while officers conducted a room-by-room search and inspected vehicles in the parking lot. Police detained five individuals, including the student who reportedly took the photo, and arrested one adult suspect in connection with the incident. Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Peter Licata confirmed that no firearm was located on the campus or on adjacent property following the extensive search.
No injuries were reported during the lockdown or search, according to school officials. District leaders say heightened law enforcement presence will remain at the campus Tuesday morning out of an abundance of caution to reassure students, staff, and parents.
