Fair Park reopens for vaccinations Saturday

DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Dallas County Health and Human Services will return to Fair Park Saturday to give first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The vaccine will be given in Lot 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The county has given 497,000 doses of the vaccine at the hub, which was open from January 11 through July 17. The vaccination site will only be open Saturday

"Please help your unvaccinated family members get the information they need to protect themselves with the vaccine. And please hurry and get all children over the age of 12 vaccinated before school starts back so that we can have the best experience for our students who have not had a normal school year in over a year and a half," Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins wrote in a statement. "We don’t want to see their chance for a more normal school experience slip away because of parents choosing not to vaccinate their children."

Jenkins says school districts and their health advisers are the best source for information about how the next school will play out.

"My advice remains the same: to win the war against COVID we must follow the science and listen to the experts, not the politicians," he says.

Thursday, Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order saying, "No governmental entity, including a county, city, school district, and public health authority, and no governmental official may require any person to wear a face covering or to mandate that another person wear a face covering."

“The new Executive Order emphasizes that the path forward relies on personal responsibility rather than government mandates. Texans have mastered the safe practices that help to prevent and avoid the spread of COVID-19. They have the individual right and responsibility to decide for themselves and their children whether they will wear masks, open their businesses, and engage in leisure activities. Vaccines, which remain in abundant supply, are the most effective defense against the virus, and they will always remain voluntary – never forced – in the State of Texas," Abbott wrote in a statement.

Through Thursday, the Texas Department of State Health Services said 61% of Dallas County residents 12 and older have received one dose of the vaccine; 52% are fully vaccinated.

In Tarrant County, 57.5% of residents had received one dose; 50.2% are fully vaccinated.

In Collin County, 70.3% have received one dose; 62% are fully vaccinated.

In Denton County, 63.3% have received one dose; 55.9% are fully vaccinated.
