The State Fair of Texas announced the winner of the second annual Big Tex Boot Design contest on Thursday.

Jessica Bonilla, 23, won the competition with a colorful design featuring Texas sunsets, bats, and butterflies.

“It’s beautiful, so many colors within the design,” State Fair spokesperson Taylor Austin said. “It’s one of those you have to look really closely to see all of the details because there’s just so much going on. But it’s a beautiful depiction.”

More than 300 competitors from across the country fought it out to have their work featured on the cowboy’s size 96 boots. In the end, an Irving resident won the honor.

“Which was so cool,” Austin said. “She goes to the fair every single year. So I think, despite not knowing that when the judges were selecting, being able to see her knowledge of the state really shine through… is why I think she ultimately won this contest.”

Each finalist was judged on creativity, representation of Texas pride and design for Big Tex.
