The State Fair of Texas opened to fans Friday morning, with people lining up before the fair opened. Last year's fair was canceled, replaced with a drive-thru event because of the pandemic.
"We came to the drive-thru last year, and it was interesting," one woman who came early said, saying she likes to walk around Fair Park before the vendors open.

"I'm glad it's back open. I love being here," her husband said.
More than a million people are expected to attend, but the State Fair of Texas says attendance may be smaller than 2019. Masks are required indoors and on DART.
The State Fair of Texas' Karissa Condoianis says about 80% of Fair Park is outdoors, where masks are optional.
"When you enter buildings, you will see signage. Make sure you follow that signage to keep yourself and others safe," she says.
Ticket takers will ask if you have a mask when you come to the gate. If you do not, masks are available at the gates, guest relations centers and hospitality centers. Details about COVID-19 protocols are available at the State Fair website.
While attendance may be lower than 2019, vendors say they are excited to see crowds return to Fair Park.
"I think people are going to come out here. I think you're going to be surprised at the attendance," says Fletcher's Corny Dogs' Joseph Jones. "Everybody's been pent up in the house, so I think they're going to show up."
Fletcher's has two new dishes on this year's menu: a brisket corn dog called, "Make Mine Texan," and a fried turkey dog called, "Dallas Hot Bird." Dallas Hot Bird is a fried turkey dog, topped with macaroni and cheese, fried jalapenos and Cholula hot sauce.
"We've had an extra year to think about things and plan," Jones says.
In the line at a Fletcher's stand near Big Tex Friday morning, some were already planning their next stop.
"I'm also here for fried butter, fried PB&J, the jambalaya balls," one woman said.
The State Fair of Texas runs through Sunday, October 17.
