A Kennedale welding shop is mostly charred rubble because of a wildfire that burned 75 acres Tuesday afternoon. The blaze burned through a commercial and industrial area along Kennedale Parkway.
More than a dozen other buildings were threatened. At least 16 fire departments rushed to help their colleagues in Kennedale.
Flames burned through a heavily wooded area, providing a lot of fuel to the fire, which was also whipped up by winds gusting at nearly 40 mph.
Homes along Pine Meadow Drive were so close to the fire that police went door-to-door to evacuate everyone. They were not allowed to go back home until Tuesday night.
Flames burned right up a railroad right-of-way just as a freight train rumbled through but the train and crew seemed to be fine.
Firefighters considered the fire contained by 9 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, fire danger will be moderate in North Texas Wednesday, but "high" to "extreme" in the Panhandle and most of the South Plains.
