A federal judge in Fort Worth has agreed to a request from Fort Worth-based BNSF railroad which requested a temporary restraining order to stop two of its unions from staging a strike on February 1st.
The unions oppose the company's plan to change rules governing when employees must be available to work.
The unions claim the new rules will force them to be away from their homes and families for too long. But BNSF claims it needs to change the rules to have enough workers to staff the trains to stay competitive with other railroads.
The case is likely to be appealed to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
