If you're feeling the effects of the winter storm, you're not the only one. It's not uncommon to feel symptoms of PTSD such as feeling lost or isolated, having brain fog and wondering what's next, after a sudden traumatic event, such as last week's deadly winter storm.
"Trauma in and of itself, is like a 2 by 4. It kind of hits us episodically when we least expect it," Dr. Huysmen said. And when these sudden events take place, it can trigger people.
Dr. Jaime Huysmen says feeling those symptoms is completely normal after a sudden, traumatic event and offers way to resolve those issues.
"Really the key to trauma resolution is social regulation. It's connection with positive people. It's being able not to be isolated," Dr. Huysmen said. "So I would suggest to everybody first connect, not to isolate ,stay close to your peers. And then when you feel safe enough, do go process it with a therapist."
