A fire breaks out at Flower Mound's namesake landmark just before four this afternoon.
"Initial reports are that a construction crew working along Farm to Market 3040 could have started this fire," says Flower Mound Deputy Fire Chief Brandon Barth.
Weather conditions didn't help matters.
"We have dry conditions out there, [and] we have a little bit more wind today than we've had of late," says Barth. "The fire quickly spread across the Flower Mound, which is approximately just a little over 10 acres in size.
"The fire did threaten numerous residential structures -- neighborhoods are on three sides of the mound," Bartin continued. "Fortunately no damage to homes, but there was some damage to fences, decks and yards."
Fire crews worked quickly to put the fire out.
"The fire was knocked out and probably about 30 minutes or so," Barth says, "but crews are still on site performing mop up operations, finding hotspots and making sure everything is completely extinguished."
If it's confirmed that the construction company did indeed start the fire, Barth says it can be held responsible.
