Fired Dallas Police officer charged with felony animal cruelty in death of cat

First he was suspended for killing a cat in Pleasant Grove. Then, Dallas police officer Jesse Coates was fired. And now, he's been charged with felony animal cruelty.

Coates appeared before a judge in Dallas yesterday.

In August, while responding to a late night domestic disturbance with other officers, Coates killed a cat which he said appeared to be in distress.

The nature of the animal's distress has never been explained by police but Coates' lawyer says the cat had been mauled by another animal before police arrived.
