The Arlington firefighter injured in a shooting while responding to a call last week was released from the hospital on Friday, fire officials say.
Firefigther Brady Weaver suffered a gunshot wound to the chest on March 22 when first responders answered a call for a welfare check at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Bardin Greene Drive.
Fire officials said a man inside the apartment awoke to firefighters attempting to breech the door after he didn't respond to multiple knocks and the crew announcing its presence. The man fired a single shot, which struck Weaver, who was rushed to the hospital in stable condition.
Arlington police said no other shots were fired and that there was a woman and children inside the apartment at the time. Officers arrested the man and charged him with aggravated assault. He also had outstanding warrants, Ast. police Chief Tarrick McGuire said.
"Thank you to everyone from across the country for your support and prayers," the Arlington Fire Department wrote on Facebook. "We are so thankful."
