The teenager accused of the stabbing death of another student at a Frisco track meet earlier this year has been indicted on a first degree murder charge.
The grand jury handed up the indictment against 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony for the murder of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf back in early April at David Kuykendall Stadium.
District Attorney Greg Willis made the announcement of the indictment on Tuesday.
"For weeks, my team has been presenting evidence to the grand jury," Willis said in a statement. "Today, I summarized that evidence, and I asked the Grand Jury to return a first degree murder indictment against Karmelo Anthony - which they did."
Anthony's lawyer Mike Howard says the indictment was not unexpected.
"We expect that when the full story is heard the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self-defense," Howard said.
Anthony has been on house arrest with an ankle monitor since late April when his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.
He reportedly admitted to the stabbing to police initially but said it was self-defense.
