A man is in a Fort Worth hospital after being shot in the leg late last night. The Fort Worth Police Gang Unit is leading the investigation.
This all began just after 11 p.m. Tuesday when a 9-1-1 caller reported hearing gunshots at Las Brisas, an apartment complex on Brentwood Stair Road near I-30 and Loop 820.
The caller also heard someone saying he'd been shot. Police rushed over there and found nothing, not a victim or a shooter. But expanding their search they found evidence of a shooting in a nearby parking lot.
Around that same time, a man with a gunshot wound showed up at a Fort Worth hospital, dropped off by someone in a private vehicle. The hospital called police and when officers arrived they confirmed the victim had been shot at the Brentwood Stair location.
After sorting it all out, officers determined the victim and his brother met in that parking lot where the brother was going to fight another man. But during the fight, that other man pulled a pistol and opened fire and hit the victim in the leg.
The shooter got away while the brother was bringing the victim to the hospital. Police are not saying if there's a connection but the location of last night's shooting is less than a mile from the Brentwood Stair address where a 12-year-old boy was fatally shot just 24 hours earlier.
