Flags at Dallas County buildings will be flying at half-mast after the death of former County Commissioner David Pickett. The long-time lawyer died yesterday at age 81.

Pickett served on the Commissioner's Court during the mid-'70s when the Frank Crowley Courthouse and Lew Sterrett Jail were built. Pickett served in the US Marine Corps, as a Dallas County prosecutor and a criminal defense lawyer.

“He was very strong in his faith. He was the rock of our family and he lived life to its fullest and wanted to experience as much as he possibly could about the world. And it’s just very admirable,” said Paige Rice, Pickett’s daughter.

The family said there will be a private service.
