Amber Guyger, the former Dallas police officer convicted in the high-profile 2018 shooting death of her neighbor Botham Jean, has been approved for parole, state officials say.

The decision from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles comes seven years after Guyger was found guilty of murder in October 2019.

Guyger was serving a 10-year prison sentence for fatally shooting the 26-year-old accountant inside his own home.

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles cited no pattern of arrests prior to the shooting, a clean record while in prison, and a completion of treatment programs for granting her early release,

State officials have not yet released a date for when Guyger will be discharged from prison.
