A Frisco Police officer who was recently fired from the force has been arrested on a charge of sexual performance of a child.

35-year-old John Hoover is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student in the Frisco ISD.

Hoover had worked as a School Resource Officer for the Frisco Police Department, but officials say the victim in the case was not a student at the school where Hoover was assigned - and there's no indication that any students at Hoover's school were involved.

Officials with the Frisco PD were notified on Sunday, August 8th about the allegations against Hoover. They launched an internal investigation and criminal investigation. Hoover was fired from his job on Wednesday, August 11th and arrested on Friday, August 13th.

He was booked into the Denton County Jail and bail was set at $100,000. He's accused of sexual performance of a child, which is a second-degree felony. The law makes it illegal to induce someone under 18 to engage in sexual conduct.

"The actions of this individual are not reflective of the great men and women we have serving here at the Frisco Police Department," said Chief of Police David Shilson. "Through his criminal behavior, this former officer has violated the code of ethics that he swore to uphold."

Hoover had been with the department since September of 2011.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the case to call the Frisco Police Department at 972-292-6010. People with information can also send an anonymous tip by texting FRISCOPD and the tip to 847411 (tip411) or by downloading the Frisco PD app.
