DENTON (1080 KRLD)- A one-time Tarrant County Sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to decades behind bars for the murder of his girlfriend in Denton County three years ago.
The victim -- Leslie Hartman -- died from a gunshot wound and Jay Rotter tried to tell investigators she committed suicide with his pistol. But investigators did not buy the story and neither did the jury which found Rotter guilty of murder.
Wednesday, the same jury gave Rotter 30 years. Hartman was an only child and in a victim impact statement, her mother tried to describe the horror of losing her and her companionship into their senior years. She said she and her husband's future now becomes very uncertain.
