It's time for Texas to legalize sports gambling, that is the message from a former Texas governor.

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry is the new spokesman for the Sports Betting Alliance. They're trying to change the law, and allow gambling in Texas with an app on your phone.

"The legalization of mobile sports betting in Texas would mean implementing smart and efficient oversight to preserve the integrity of sporting events," said Perry. "It would also empower Texans to safely participate in mobile sports betting and fight illegal gambling."

Perry says people are already betting on games and this would keep potentially hundreds of millions of dollars worth of tax revenues in Texas.

But Rob Kohler, consultant for the Christian Life Commission opposes the move and doesn't believe it will get enough support in Austin.

At leasat 35 states have legalized sports gambling. The move would eventually need to be approved by voters.
