Former Wolf City cop charged with murder files appeal for lower bond

A former Wolf City police officer charged with murder wants his bond lowered so he can get out of jail.

Shaun Lucas is still being held in the Collin County jail where he has been since his indictment for murder last year. His bond is $1 million.

Lucas is asking an appeals court to lower it to no more than $200,000.

Lucas is a former Wolfe City police officer who shot and killed community leader Jonathan Price in October.

Lucas had been sent to a disturbance at a convenience store. Price was trying to break up a fight when Lucas tried to arrest him.

Lucas, who is white, claims he thought Price, who was Black, was reaching for his taser when he opened fire.

Witnesses say the shooting was unnecessary and the Texas Rangers found no need for use of lethal force.

The appeals court is not expected to hear arguments.
