With this unrelenting heat comes the constant threat of fire, and Fort Worth fire crews had a stubborn one Wednesday.
Firefighters from Fort Worth, River Oaks, Saginaw and Lake Worth all cooperated on a grass and brush fire near Isbell Road in a green space along the West Fork of the Trinity river.
Officials say the problem was not only the triple-digit heat but the high winds that were blowing all day. The hot wind from the south was gusting into the mid-20s, just whipping up the flames even more.
Even with four fire departments working together, it took most of the day to get control. Even at that, commanders left crews on the scene to keep an eye out for flare-ups.
