The Fort Worth City Council unanimously approved a zoning change, allowing for a 149-room Hampton Inn and Suites to be built on North Main Street just south of Northwest 29th Street.
Councilman Carlos Flores, whose district includes the Stockyards, says the Stockyards attract scores of visitors throughout the year, and they need a place to stay.
But the move was not without opposition. Danielle Flores, who is no relation, told the council that more hotels mean more traffic and more crime.
The four-story hotel will go up on the former site of a long-shuttered supermarket.
